Biography:

Dr. M. Marina Melita is an Italian lecturer and the Coordinator of Italian Studies at Marist College. In addition, she is the Co-chair of the Advocacy Committee for the American Association of Teachers of Italian and is also a representative of the organization to New York State. Dr. Melita’s research focuses primarily on countering the conscious and systematic elimination of Women’s Voices from the Italian literary canon, from Unification through World War II. Her current projects include creating an inclusive undergraduate Italian literature course centered on Black women writers, as well as a visual analysis of women’s power and gender roles in Liliana Cavani’s 1974 ground-breaking film, Il Portiere di notte.
